Acupuncture is one of the treatment modalities of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the oldest professional and continuously practiced medicine in the world. It uses very thin single use needles inserted into specific acupuncture points in the body. Upon insertion of the needles, Qi is then stimulated allowing the energy to flow and help regulate the body's imbalances, relieve pain, improve function, replenish deficiencies, and promote healing. TCM embraces the logic that the best cure for sickness is prevention.

Maya Krishnasastry, RNC-MNN, IBCLC, LMT

Maya became a massage therapist because she felt drawn to the power of touch and its capacity to heal. Receiving therapeutic touch integrates the mind, body, and spirit; it can be a valuable component of wellness in today’s rushed and disconnected world. As a massage therapist, Maya strives to create a sense of peace and comfort, as she believes this helps the body integrate and accept change. Maya’s background in dance and practice of yoga, meditation, and qi gong inform her intuition in all aspects of her work.

Maya has been a NY State Licensed Massage Therapist since 2006, graduating from the Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences. She became certified in prenatal and postpartum massage in 2008. Inspired by the beauty and profound transformation of pregnancy and birth, Maya went on to train as a labor support and postpartum doula. She has completed various additional trainings as a massage therapist, most notably in the areas of oncology massage, post-mastectomy massage, shiatsu, and pregnancy massage. In 2018 Maya became a Registered Nurse, and currently works with postpartum mothers and newborns as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. In her practice of all these disciplines, Maya combines her knowledge of allopathic and alternative medicine to provide compassionate, respectful care to those in need.
